K.E. Lanning

K.E. (Karen) Lanning is a screenwriter and author born in Houston, Texas.

 As a screenwriter, Lanning has written both drama and sci-fi drama, including a multi-award winning pilot (1-hour) screenplay, A Spider Sat Beside Her, for a proposed limited series titled, THE MELT (loosely adapted from her MELT trilogy of novels), and proposed to entail three seasons. In addition, Lanning has written an award-winning pilot for a limited drama series, Where the Sky Meets the Earth, with Season One comprised of four intense episodes.

 As a novelist, Lanning has written two works of literary fiction, as wells as a climate fiction trilogy titled, THE MELT Trilogy: A Spider Sat Beside Her, The Sting of the Bee and Listen to the Birds. Each novel garnered excellent Kirkus Reviews, with the last novel the recipient of Best New Novels of 2019 from Kirkus Reviews.

 As a part of her author platform, she’s published a series of book reviews and author interviews on THE MILLIONS and FUTURISM, including authors Claire Vaye Watkins, Hugh Howey, Margaret Atwood, Emily St. John Mandel, Andy Weir, and Cixin Liu.

 Lanning is a member of the Virginia Screenwriters Forum and James River Writers.
